Peer Mentors

Peer mentoring at Virginia Tech is the predominant form of formal mentoring and is focused primarily on assisting students as they make the transition to college.

Peer mentoring is incorporated into Living Learning communities, first-year experience courses, department or college-based transition programs, co-curricular programs, and student support initiatives across campus.

Peer mentors at Virginia Tech perform the dual role of advocate and resource agent.

Specifically, they help students make connections to available support services and resources and foster academic and social support networks among students.

Peer mentors at Virginia Tech enhance communication skills through active listening and positive feedback.

They effectively facilitate individual and group dialogue while enhancing inclusive environments.
