PH 1004: Population Health Sciences FYE
Population Health Sciences FYE is offered for first-year and transfer students enrolled in the undergraduate major, Public Health Studies, offered at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. The course is also available to students switching their major to Public Health Studies.
Course Outcomes
Having successfully completed this course, student will be able to:
- Identify and explore university, college and departmental resources, policies, and procedures
- Construct an academic plan using DARS, checksheets, and/or Hokie GPS
- Demonstrate information literacy skills necessary for academic success
- Describe areas of research and potential careers in the public health
- Identify and apply problem solving strategies
- Identify the importance of ethical behavior for students and professionals in their discipline
Students will also engage with the department’s faculty and peer mentors, participate in a scavenger hunt at the veterinary school, and explore career opportunities for graduates from the major.
