Partners

The Office of First-Year Experiences encourages collaboration among the academic administrative, and other student resource units by facilitating partnerships embedded in course design. These collaborative partnerships engage students with the variety of support services Virginia Tech offers to undergraduates by serving as a guided experience within the University. 

In addition to student engagement, the FYE collaborative partnerships facilitate faculty development through ongoing work with support units in both formal and informal environments.

Academic Advising - Advising at Virginia Tech is a collaborative process between student and advisor leading to the exchange of information that encourages the individual student to make responsible academic and career decisions.

Division of Student Affairs - Student Affairs exists to sustain a culture of learning, reflecting the profound opportunities inherent for students at Virginia Tech. We are committed to providing transformative experiential learning, to access and success, and to service and leadership in the spirit of Ut Prosim (That I May Serve).

Career and Professional Development - CPD works to assist all students at Virginia Tech, in all majors, first year through graduate level, throughout their journey of career and professional development.

Center for Excellence in Teaching & Learning (CETL) - The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning partners with faculty and instructors to support the design, development, and implementation of learner-centered instruction. We offer an array of confidential, customized services to meet faculty needs, from consulting to workshops to certificates to annual conferences; additionally, we provide instructional grants and teaching awards to promote significant learning experiences.

Cook Counseling Center - Thomas E. Cook Counseling Center provides opportunities for students to learn more about themselves as individuals, form deeper relationships with their peers and grow to benefit our community and society at large. The Cook Counseling Center staff provides these learning opportunities through individual and group counseling, psychiatric care and psychotherapy and educational programming.

Cranwell International Center - Cranwell International Center exists to articulate, advocate, and act in support of international students, amplifying their contributions to the Virginia Tech community and to the advancement of the university as more globally oriented and internationally connected.

Dean of Students - The Dean of Students is committed to offering care and support to students so they flourish in nearly every imaginable way.

Global Education Office (Study Abroad) - The Global Education Office (GEO) strengthens Virginia Tech’s mission of global engagement, discovery, and service by connecting our faculty and students to their peers abroad; inspiring and contributing to the faculty’s creation and promotion of cross-cultural learning experiences; and supporting the development of our students into globally competent citizens.

Hokie Wellness - Hokie Wellness strives to educate and empower every Hokie to take an active and engaging day-to-day approach to their wellness in order to enjoy a long, healthful, and purpose-filled life.

Housing and Residence Life - Virginia Tech's Housing and Residence Life (HRL) is a large organization which operates 47 on-campus residence halls housing approximately 9,300 residents. More than just a place to sleep, the on-campus experience is enriched by the initiatives and engagement of resident student staff (such as resident advisors, house supervisors) and live-in professional and para-professional staff (such as assistant residential learning coordinators, residential learning coordinators) who live in the residence halls. 

Learning Partnerships - Learning Partnerships works in collaboration with other Student Affairs units and in conjunction with departments and centers throughout campus to to design and facilitate a student-centered and learning-focused approach to co-curricular experiences. Supported and inspired by Virginia Tech’s Aspirations for Student Learning, Learning Partnerships champions integrating the Aspirations for Student Learning into the culture of co-curricular experiences.

Multicultural Academic Opportunities Program (MAOP) - The Multicultural Academic Opportunities Program (MAOP), is an academic success community founded upon the principles of self-efficacy, mentoring, and peer support that is dedicated to the promotion of diversity and inclusion within the student body. Through partnerships with various academic colleges and departments at Virginia Tech, other colleges and universities, governmental entities, and various organizations, MAOP provides support for both undergraduate and graduate students and assists them in their transition by providing academic guidance as well as emotional, social, and financial support until they graduate.

Office of Assessment and Evaluation (OAE) - Assessment & Evaluation, part of the Office of Academic Decision Support, provides leadership and coordination for assessment activities conducted across Virginia Tech. Initiatives include academic and certificate program assessment, administrative assessment, general education assessment, academic program review, and several survey research projects including the Student Perceptions of Teaching (SPOT) course evaluations. The unit focuses on the continuous improvement of academic degree programs, certificates, administrative units, and other initiatives across campus.

Office of General Education - The Pathways to General Education curriculum is a central component of the undergraduate experience at Virginia Tech, providing a vibrant, flexible, and meaningful general education program that helps students to integrate their learning for use throughout their lifetimes. It guides students to examine the world from multiple perspectives and integrate their knowledge across disciplines and domains of learning through a hands-on, minds-on approach.

Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) - The Office of Undergraduate Research is a university-level office whose mission is to promote, enhance, and expand undergraduate research opportunities at Virginia Tech by offering a number of free services to students from all majors and academic levels.

Recreational Sports - The Department of Recreational Sports enhances the quality of life for the university community by educating and encouraging participation in activities that promote healthy lifestyles, social interactions, and leadership skills. The department creates an atmosphere that encourages individuals to develop life-long involvement in recreational activities and is dedicated to meeting the changing needs of a diverse community by offering quality structured and informal recreational opportunities.

Schiffert Health Center - Wellness and health services are designed to promote the current and future well-being of our student-patients through the provision of nationally accredited health care to promote healthy lifestyles. Schiffert Health Center offers designated clinics and services that are cost-effective and responsive to student needs so as to reduce the impact of illness and other health concerns which may interfere with student success at Virginia Tech.

Student Engagement and Campus Life - Student Engagement and Campus Life complements the academic experience by building communities, promoting holistic education, and cultivating environments through leadership, innovation, and service.

Student Success Center - The Student Success Center is committed to being an innovative leader in providing holistic support services and programs that encourage students to become engaged, self-directed and lifelong active learners. It strives to create opportunities for students within a diverse and inclusive environment as they create their path for achieving their goals and future success.

Technology-Enhanced Learning and On-Line Strategies (TLOS) - Technology-enhanced Learning and Online Strategies, a unit within Virginia Tech’s Division of Information Technology, is dedicated to the advancement of teaching and learning through the thoughtful application of technology to the teaching process and learning environments.

University Libraries - The goal of University Libraries is to foster innovation, discovery, creativity, and collaboration through spaces, technology, services, and people.

Veteran Services - The Office of Veteran Services ensures that veterans and military-connected students are provided the resources necessary for a successful transition to and through their course of study at Virginia Tech. Students served by the Office of Veterans Services have access to Veterans Affairs (VA) education benefits certification, mentoring, assistance in navigating the VA (education, health, and disability systems), and connection to other student, university, and community support organizations."

VT Engage - VT Engage is a university center that partners with community organizations to create service experiences that prioritize community-identified need and student learning, and prepares students to develop their leadership capacities. VT Engage works with faculty members to integrate leadership competencies and thoughtful service projects into their coursework.
